WhatsApp Mass Messaging: Best Practices
How to reduce the risk of your WhatsApp account suspension?
WhatsApp account suspension is solely managed by WhatsApp(Meta), and depends on many factors:
WhatsApp has specific policies on bulk messaging, which prohibit users from sending unsolicited messages;
Sending mass messages on WhatsApp may violate anti-spam laws in certain countries.
Sending mass messages on WhatsApp can quickly become spam if the messages are not relevant or useful to the recipients. This can lead to the messages being ignored or reported as spam.
Additionally, there are more details that you should take into account:
WhatsApp Business application is under much tighter scrutiny. Any activity such as sending messages or even adding a linked device can be a trigger for a ban, not because the activity itself is problematic, but rather because the WhatsApp account in question is marked as “suspicious”.
Consider linking a WhatsApp web session or sending messages to new contacts via web session as an activity under higher scrutiny, that may trigger an immediate ban for suspicious WhatsApp accounts.
A WhatsApp account (both Business and Regular; but Business in particular) is marked as “suspicious”, if it is being registered from the same IP (network) as another WA account, that was previously/recently blocked/suspended.
Such accounts may get banned almost immediately after registration, following activity such as linking to TimelinesAI or sending messages to new contacts via TimelinesAI.
When it comes to Mass Messaging/Bulk Reply Campaigns, at TimelinesAI, we do our best to avoid unpleasant situations for customers with their WhatsApp accounts. Mass messages are sent with a random delay, which WhatsApp regards as sending regular messages one by one.
Despite our best efforts, WhatsApp account suspensions/bans are still on the WhatsApp(Meta) side. We strongly suggest you follow our guidelines to reduce the risk of suspension/blocking of your WhatsApp Account.
We have created a guide for you, with the best practices for sending newsletters on WhatsApp while reducing the risk of being blocked by WhatsApp(Meta).
Registration
Use WhatsApp accounts with mobile numbers and their respective SIM cards:
WhatsApp accounts registered with a landline or virtual number have a greater likelihood of getting banned.
WhatsApp accounts used with the WhatsApp Business mobile app are slightly more likely to get banned:
This tends to happen when there are user reports or automatic content checks. Consider using a Regular WhatsApp account connected to the WhatsApp mobile app for sending a large amount of messages into new chats.
When registering a new WhatsApp Business account, it should preferably be done from a mobile network:
Registering from the same Wi-Fi network in which a WhatsApp account was recently banned is almost 100% ban guarantee after linking it to TimelinesAI.
Make sure not to use rooted/jailbroken devices to register or operate a WhatsApp account:
WhatsApp recently implemented new methods of detecting such devices and WhatsApp accounts registered on such devices have a greater likelihood of getting blocked.
We recommend checking the Bootloader Status on your device. Here are two ways to check this within your device:
Install SafetyNet Checker from the Google Play Store to confirm whether your device passes the device integrity check.
You can also check this by reviewing your mobile device settings. Here’s an article with more information about the steps that you can follow.
Make sure to only use an official WhatsApp mobile app downloaded from Google Play/App Store and keep it updated regularly:
WhatsApp is able to detect cases of using modified WhatsApp mobile clients and bans them routinely.
WhatsApp Account “Warm-up”
Don’t use newly registered WhatsApp Accounts:
Even after limited messages are sent to new chats, newly created/registered WhatsApp accounts are more likely to get suspended/banned. To avoid this, ensure the account has been used regularly (“warmed-up”) for a reasonable amount of time before sending mass messages.
Newly registered WhatsApp Business accounts must be warmed up with friendly users:
First 20-30 contacts should be sent via the WhatsApp Mobile app, and one must ensure these recipients are added as contacts. It is recommended to have a long message exchange (200+ messages) with at least one of the contacts. Only after that, one should attempt to link TimelinesAI and start sending messages.
It is crucial to avoid situations where you send a lot of messages without a response.
So, the best way to approach this is to not send an offer in the first message and, instead, send an introductory message and politely ask if they (your contacts) are willing to look at any offers you may send in the future.
This is actually a good practice for any cold outreach, but in the case of WhatsApp, it will naturally:
Reduce ban reports because it is less spammy
Increase response rate (a “No” also counts as a response)
Avoid sending mass messages with identical content to new chats:
Sending mass messages with identical content into new chats over short periods of time has an increased chance of banning
Personalization or variation of message content is advised.
Safe Sending Practices
Refrain from sending repeated messages to recipients that blocked your sender number:
Repeated attempts to send to a recipient who has blocked (or has not approved) the sender are likely to lead to an account ban.
Consider sending messages to the same number only if the previous message has been delivered and/or is in a “read” status.
You can see the messages’ sent status in the downloadable report within the Mass Messaging Campaigns section on TimelinesAI.
Sending messages with certain content into new chats bears a significantly increased likelihood of banning - for example:
URLs leading to log-in or registration pages
URLs leading to sites with financial or adult content
Adult topics
Topics related to software accounts, such as invitations to register, password recovery, etc.
Don’t send attachments as a first message to new chats:
Send attachments into existing chats only, preferably after the initial text/introductory message is read by the recipient.
If your WhatsApp account gets suspended/blocked, then we recommend following these steps to unblock your account.
